Three things matter most for good germination: well-prepared land, healthy setts and even planting with the right moisture.
1. Land preparation
- Plough deep and make the soil loose and level.
- Arrange drainage so water does not stand.
- Mixing in well-rotted farmyard manure / organic manure improves the soil condition; quantity as per local advice.
2. Choosing setts
- Take fresh, disease-free setts from a reliable source.
- Usually pieces with 2–3 buds are used.
- Treat the setts if needed, as per local agricultural advice.
3. Planting
- Place all setts at an even depth and cover them with soil properly.
- Keep the moisture right at planting: neither too little nor too much.
- Keep row and plant spacing according to the variety and method.
4. Granules at planting
Steps after planting: Dose schedule.
