If germination is not even after planting, the crop stand of the whole field suffers. Gaps mean replanting, which adds both cost and time.
Common causes of germination gaps
- Sett quality: old, dried-out or diseased setts do not sprout well from their buds.
- Moisture: too little or too much soil moisture at planting can affect germination.
- Depth and soil pressure: setts placed too deep or too shallow germinate unevenly.
- Soil condition: a hard pan, salinity or poor drainage can affect the root zone.
- Soil-borne pests and diseases: setts and the root zone are at risk of damage.
Planting checklist
- Choose healthy, fresh setts.
- Keep the right soil moisture at planting.
- Place setts at an even depth and cover them with soil properly.
- Apply Granules at planting itself, for the root zone.
- Note down the dates of the first irrigation and the herbicide application.
The planting step in the Immunity Program
Immunity Granules: 8–12 KG / vigha(or 20–30 KG / acre) at planting.
Sugarcane Special drenching: 0.5–0.7 litres / vighaFor drenching after the first irrigation / 3–4 days after the herbicide application.
It can be used in this program with chemical fertilizers, fungicides and pesticides. If you are unsure about a specific combination, call and ask first.
